For those of you who missed anything, first run, TNT is re-airing 3 eps of MOCA July 6,7, & 8 at 2am ET. No news on the rerunning of any other episodes - my DVR only schedules two weeks in advance. Will let you know if they show up.

Sightings -- Scott at Premiere

Scott attends the opening night of "Into the Heights" at the Pantages Theatre in LA, June 23

While I've decided Sightings is a better category title than "Around Town," (for live appearances and stuff, that you have already missed or couldn't attend) I forgot that Pictures would have worked, too...

Sightings -- Scott, Shatner, and Shatner's New Documentary

Didn't quite have a category for this one (fixed that). The other day, a fan took a picture of Scott and William Shatner at a restaurant. While observing that "Scott has finally met Shatner," fans wondered what was up.
This article explains.

...as it turns out, is the concept behind his forthcoming Star Trek documentary, The Captains.

“I’m talking to all the captains of Star Trek,” explains Shatner. “I’m hoping to find things out about them that even they themselves don’t know. And in the process find out about myself.”

The article also contains the aforementioned photo (shot by an anonymous fan) and a Tweet from Shatner.

The documentary is being shot for a network in Canada. There is no mention as to whether it will air in the US.

Review -- Praise for MOCA

Houston Chronicle praises MOCA.
Most Surprising Series: Men of a Certain Age on TNT. Did anybody see this coming? The drama, starring Ray Romano, Andre Braugher and Scott Bakula, managed to be poignant and funny (an incredibly difficult mix to get exactly right) about men having midlife crises. Easily the best portrayal on television of men dealing with their second acts and all the people -- friends, wives, lovers, kids -- who populate that stretch.

Quotes -- Emmy contenders and such

Found this without even a google alert. Though it might be a couple of days old and maybe I posted it before, but since I don't remember reading it, maybe not. Emmy Contenders Scott and Andre talk about Men of a Certain Age, auditioning, and each other.

Men Of A Certain Age - and the Emmys

I'd heard that it premiered too late in the year to be eligible.
Maybe not.
TNT's Emmy Campaign Mailer
"Men of a Certain Age" is the network's best Emmy hope among its newer series because it features past multiple Emmy champs Ray Romano ("Everybody Loves Raymond") and Andre Braugher ("Homicide," "Thief") plus four-time nominee Scott Bakula ("Quantum Leap"). The Los Angeles Times calls it a "miraculously good show about a stage of life that is too often either ignored or overplayed."

Reminder -- Scott on Chuck, Monday night

Scott will be on the 2 hour season finale of Chuck tomorrow, May 24, on NBC from 8-10pm ET.

Also, Chuck has been picked up for a 4th Season (thank you, Chuck fans!) of 13 episodes. Please get your friends to watch. Fan activism got us a season 3, and now we have a season 4, but the ratings are still not that great and generally, the reason the show was picked up was that NBC is in a post Leno at 10 fiasco and doesn't have a lot of hit shows anymore anyway. No one watches NBC, no one sees promos on NBC, no one watches *more* NBC. It's sorta like being on UPN! Only sadder....

Upfronts -- Brief Comment from Scott

I've been so busy this week that I didn't even consider that Scott would be at the Upfronts in NY, cause, when I think of Upfronts, I think of major broadcast networks.

I also admit to not reading my google alerts - I thought they were all about Chuck. I have skimmed the headers at SBFF and satisfied myself that Scott is not about to appear in a Broadway Play or Benefit or anything else you are about to miss, so here is one of the quotes from the upfronts (and remember - Chuck tomorrow at 8pm ET on NBC - two hours. There will be an automated reminder tomorrow before 6. I hope. It depends on an auto-tweet and Twitter talking to Blogger. Hmmm... Maybe not. I think Blogger talks to Twitter.

Men funnyman Ray Romano closed the upfront appearing with his co-stars Scott Bakula and Andre Braugher and joking that although his show may not attract the youngest demographic, he and his cast were still going to "keep it real."

"So I'm gonna get a rash and you're gonna get a groin pull," he said to Braugher.

Request to Scott fans

The ratings for Chuck last night were... significantly "less good." We therefore request that you watch the show live (the networks get bigger ad dollars to live than for DVR ratings) and try to get your friends to watch. The more viewers we have, the better our chances for a 4th season (and Schwartz & Fedak blessing us with more Scott.)
thanks

Men of a Certain Age "surpassed" expectations

In an Interview with Broadcasting & Cable’s Melissa Grego, Turner Entertainment Networks President Steve Koonin spoke in absolutely glowing terms when it came to Men of a Certain Age:
Men of a Certain Age just wrapped its first season this week. You’ve ordered a second. Did it perform as you hoped?

This show surpassed every expectation I had. Our criteria are critical success, for which we got a check-plus; adding value to sales clients and cable affiliates, that’s a check-plus; and potential in ratings, [another] check-plus. It couldn’t have performed better than it did
this is from Broadcasting & Cable by way of TVByTheNumbers

Ratings -- Men of a Certain Age, Finale

TV By The Numbers gives the final ratings for MOCA.
TNT’s critically acclaimed series Men of a Certain Age closed its first season out with 2.6 million viewers (Live + Same Day) Monday night, with outstanding growth across the board when compared to the previous week’s episode. The season finale audience is expected to grow substantially when final Live + 7 data is available in two weeks. Current blended data shows the series averaging 4 million viewers for its first season.
thanks to Helene for the reminder, as I did not post this when I first saw it, which was apparently... today, though I could have sworn it was longer ago.

Interview -- More from the Chuck Phone Q&A

NBC confirmed a while back that Scott Bakula would be around for one of the later episodes of the season. Is there anything you can say about what he's doing or additionally anyone else that we are familiar with that might be making a return appearance before the season's out?

Joshua Gomez: He's doing awesome work I can tell you that much. Get Scotty Bak.

Zachary Levi: I know this is a spoiler and we're not supposed to talk about it but it turns out Scott Bakula is my dad. Yeah, I don't know. He really is doing fantastic work. I can't even tell you how much I love Scotty Bak. That guy is not only super talented but he is so fun. Like he's like a little kid like... You know, we'll just break into song or do funny voices and but he's such a pro like just like to a T. You know, just always on his moments, always diving into this character, Steven Bartowski who is very odd and kitschy and quirky and brilliant and, you know, and he brings it every time, every scene and it's such a pleasure to work opposite him. And, you know, and Josh gets to work with him as well so it's nice when you have a guest star that, you know, kind of traverses both the spy and personal life.

TV -- Three Eps of Chuck Confirmed by "NBC Rep"

Okay, I'll buy it now. The NBC rep is unnamed, but he did say the word "three." :-)

Can you talk about what Scott Bakula is doing this season?
Gomez: He's doing awesome work, I can tell you that much.

Levi: I know this is a spoiler and we're not supposed to talk about it, but it turns out he's my dad. He really is doing fantastic work -- I can't even tell you how much I love him. ... He's always on his moments, he dives into this character of Steven Bartowski, who's very odd and quirky and brilliant. He brings it every time.

How many episodes will he be in?
Levi: Can we say? I believe he is doing three episodes at the end. [An NBC rep confirms that Bakula will be on three episodes "in the very last part of the season."]

Chuck - 2 eps or 3?

While we were on the phone this afternoon, reading the internet to each other (I swear) there was a phone press conference with people from Chuck and a few people said Scott was going to be in three episodes, 17 thru 19, but Scott had said 2 and last year he said 3, and was in 19-22 but not 20, so I'll have to read the summary and see if 17-19 actually means 3 episodes or it's an assumption. Stay tuned notes from chucktv.net
Scott Bakula (or “Scotty Back” as Zac calls him) is 1) awesome, 2) prone to break out in song on set, and 3) appearing in episodes 3.17-3.19.

From USA Today

"I love the communal feeling of these awards," said Scott Bakula of TNT's Men of a Certain Age. "What we are as actors, for better and for worse, is visible. So it's just great when we use that visibility to do something good, like the telethon. I mean, come on, we are so lucky in this business. To do something for other people when they need it most just feels good."

This week's ep of Men of a Certain Age will feature the wonderful Robert Loggia, who had to remind me that he had done *two* movies with Scott, when I stupidly told him how much I loved "the" movie he did with Scott (he asked "which one?") oops. Fandom -- A thought from the trenches

Actually this is the happy part of fandom, but if you have never experienced it before...

Have you ever experienced Too Much Scott?
It's a rare condition that can only be contracted if you are in a small apartment with 4 or 5 other Scott fans who are trying to
play Scott videos
play Scott songs
show you their pictures of Scott
give you tapes of Scott singing
and
tell you stories about having met Scott
all At The Same Time.

The symptoms of this disease are:
You turn down the offer of the audio tapes of Scott singing with his church choir (or whatever) because you are so overloaded, you are not thinking straight.
I never did get those tapes.... but the pictures I was shown (this was in the pre-digital camera days) were very nice
Kim, if you ever see this, thanks for sharing your apartment!

TNT has renewed its Ray Romano freshman dramedy "Men of a Certain Age." The network has ordered 10 episodes for a second round. TNT called it an "easy decision." Though "Men" dropped sharply from its premiere, its last few episodes have been fairly stable, averaging around 3 million viewers.

MORE SCOTT ON CHUCK

Scott's coming back!
Scott Bakula has signed on to reprise his role as Chuck’s spy daddy, Steve, for multiple episodes.

Pops was last seen in the season 2 finale fleeing daughter Ellie’s wedding reception for parts unknown.

Chuck exec producer Josh Schwartz calls Bakula’s comeback arc — which would fall at the end of the spy comedy’s third season (premiering this Sunday!) — “the biggest thing we’ve ever done on the show.”

Bakula is currently starring in TNT’s Men of A Certain Age. With production wrapped on that show’s first season, Bakula was free to return to Chuck.
here's the source (Ausiello) thanks to Elaine

Ratings -- Overall, with a spin, courtesy of TNT

TNT's view of MOCA ratings
The entire quote is from the press release.
This past week's ratings put MOCA in 131st place after several eps of SpongeBob, but I'm going to need you to find that post (same site) cause I just saw a link about Donny Osmond's new radio show.

I'm avoiding spoilers at every turn,  so I can't give you details, but needn't remind you tonight is episode 5 (of 10) of MOCA on TNT (@10pm and 1am). Scott's in it, so what do details matter? Ratings were down a bit last week, so tell a friend.

I'm really enjoying the show. So much, in fact, I must remind myself Chuck is returning next Sunday at 9. and 10. and Monday at 8.

I, too, promised NBC I'd ask you to watch. The Season 2 DVDs will be in stores tomorrow. $36.99 appears to be the best price (please email me if you find something better - there is a link at the top of the page that says Email Pam)

It's Chuck Week here at Bakula News

I'm a bit late, I know. I had planned to start January first, but there were holidays and real life.
So this is the week where I start suggesting to you that you start watching Chuck. Please help me continue to save one of my very favorite shows (which, if it continues, Scott would like to guest star on again)

For now, please read at least the beginning of this Reasons to Watch Chuck post.
I, and those of us who fought to save Chuck last spring, thank you.

Whoops, forgot to remind you of airdates.
*Catchup eps marathon on Syfy beginning 5pm ET on Thursday.
*Season 3 Premiere on NBC Sunday from 9 to 11pm then
*another episode in the regular timeslot - opposite House and How I Met Your Mother (but not Big Bang), two hours before Men of a Certain Age - next Monday (1/11/10) at 8pm

Video -- Old and Newer

This is pretty mucha roundup of various Scott videos you may not have seen. Peek in and check.

Poll -- Do you like Men of a Certain Age

Z, at Z on TV has asked me what Scott fans think of the show.

I didn't have much of an answer.
And I don't know how to work the poll widget, and I'm having company in 15 minutes, so if you could drop me a line and let me know: Like, dislike, bored, thrilled, and anything else you feel about the show. It doesn't have to be long, but it can be if you want. Whatever.
I'd appreciate it. (and if you don't mind being quoted, in part or in full, let me know that too.)

thanks

TV -- Men of a Certain Age and Chuck Marathon

Also, Chuck Season 3 (not including Scott, but he's amenable if they want him back) will premiere Sunday Jan 10 at with 2 episodes and continue the following night in its regular time slot, Monday at 8pm ET. Please join us Chuck fans in watching the show. We appreciate your help. Thanks.
